Trafford Park: gas works begin Monday (22 April)

Essential work to upgrade a gas pipe in Trafford Park, Urmston, Manchester, starts on Monday (22 April), requiring changes to traffic flow.

Cadent, which manages the local gas network, needs to work on an underground pipe in Ashburton Road West, at the junction of Taylor Road.

Details of the work

For around six weeks, this work will require some temporary traffic arrangements to enable the safe flow of vehicles around the work area.

There will only be sufficient room for one of the two lanes of traffic to stay open.

This means there will be no left turn from Taylor Road onto Ashburton Road West and no turning off the Ellesmere Circle roundabout onto Ashburton Road West.

A short diversion will be signposted.

Although close to the Trafford Centre, there should be no major disruption for visitors here.

The impact is more for likely to be felt by the industrial park, which is receiving visits from Cadent teams and letters to explain.

Kevin Flynn, senior Cadent engineer, said: “This is essential work, to remove an old section of metallic gas main.

"It ensures the gas network can safely transport gas to the local area for many years to come.

"With many businesses and industrial sites reliant on gas to operate what they do, that’s why this is critical engineering.

“We’ll have teams visiting the businesses in the area to explain the diversion and the temporary traffic arrangements.

"We’ve worked closely with Trafford Council to agree a plan that mainly involves a short diversion route.”
