A smell of gas in Crosby has been traced to a pipe under one of the town’s busiest road junctions – with teams preparing to move in early tomorrow morning to repair it.

Cadent, which manages the local gas network, says the incident is under control but action is necessary to avoid any risk of deterioration and to keep everyone safe.

Three-way temporary lights will be set up at the junction of Crosby Road North, South Road and Haigh Road from tomorrow morning (Saturday). This will ensure traffic can continue to flow, while creating a safe area for the engineers to work in.

Cadent’s teams will work on this over the weekend and into next week. At this stage, the intention is to complete the work within seven days.

Nick Jerman, Head of Customer Operations, Cadent, said: “We are monitoring readings and everything right now is under control. However, this job is one that needs urgent action, to keep everyone safe. We have arranged for our teams to move in tomorrow morning(8th June), to begin this essential work.

“The section of pipe we need to work on is in the middle of the road. We appreciate the works will cause some local traffic disruption and promise to work as quickly as we safely can to get this done. I hope people understand that safety is our priority.”

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
