    • Modernising gas pipes that have been in operation for decades;
    • Upgrade will future-proof the network;
    • The final stage of the works began on 30th May

    Major works to gas pipes under Station Road, Heckington, which are essential to keeping homes in the area warm have been taking place in recent months. The final stage of the project will began on 30th May.

    Cadent, which manages the local gas network, will be carrying out a project which will see gas mains being replaced in order to future proof the network and ready pipes for the introduction of more environmentally friendly gases.

    In collaboration with Lincolnshire County Council and the Highways Agency, a road closure will be in place on north of Millers Way Junction of Station Road & Just North of Millview Road Junction of Hale Road from 11th June, until 22nd June owing to the complex nature of the project. This is to allow Cadent engineers to carry out the work as safely and as quickly as possible. Diversions will be in place as a result of the road closure.

    Details of the road closure are as follows:

    • There will be no access to the A52 if you are coming south from Heckington
    • There will be no access to the A17 if you are coming North from Great Hale.
    • All access to the Industrial Estate, Wellington Close, New Street, Millers Way & the train station MUST come from the north side of the road closure Boston Road (B1394) , A17. You will not be able to access any further than the train station as this will have a solid line of strong wall in place.
    • All access to Heckington Windmill, Pocklington Way, Millview Road & and junctions south of this MUST come from the south side of the road closure Helpringham, Little Hale, Great Hale, Holland Road (A52) you will not be able to access any further than the windmill as this will have a solid line of strong wall in place.
    • Both ends of the road closure will be covered by a gateman operative to allow access as stated above between the hours of 07:00 & 19:00 Daily.
    • Outside of these hours the closure points will be semi closed with all above limitations still in place to prevent through traffic.

    After this, works will then continue for a further 1 week until the 28th June under traffic signals at the junction of Millview Road.

    Richard Sansom, Network Director for Cadent in the East Midlands, said: These works are part of a major £1.1billion investment in our Eastern Network by Cadent which is vital in ensuring that we keep gas flowing to homes in Lincolnshire and beyond for generations to come.

    With gas pipes being decades old, it is essential that we replace them to futureproof our network and minimise the amount of repair work that we have to do in the area over the coming years. Keeping the people of Heckington warm in their homes is our number one priority. I can confirm that gas will stay on throughout the duration of these works.

    I understand that these works will cause inconvenience and frustration to residents and road users; this is understandable. However, we are doing all that we can to minimise disruption as we carry out these vital works and will continue to engage with the local community. I would urge everybody to allow for additional time in their journeys, and I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we seek to carry out the works as swiftly, but as safely as possible.

    Cadent

    Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

    Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
