    • Cadent and Essex Highways Authority utilise road closure to complete work together
    • Brentwood High Street closed for two weeks

We’re upgrading the old metal gas pipes along the High Street in Brentwood from 15 September 2025 for six weeks until 27 October 2025.

We are working with Essex Highways Authority, who will be utilising the road closure to resurface the road whilst we complete our work.

The new pipes will help us to keep customers safe and warm whilst reducing the likelihood of us having to come back to make repairs in the future.

The work on the High Street will be completed under a full road closure from Crown Street to St Thomas Road. The other sections of the High Street work will be completed with a lane closure only.

The High Street will be open for pedestrians at all times and access to businesses for deliveries will be maintained throughout. Diversions will be in place as applicable.

We are carrying out these works in three phases, approximately two weeks per phase.

Phase 1 & 2 - The High Street will be fully closed from Crown Street to St Thomas Road.

Phase 3 & 4 - A rolling lane closure along the High Street from Weald Road/Kings Road to Crown Street

Phase 5 & 6 - A rolling lane closure on the High Street from St Thomas Road to Wilson’s Corner roundabout (Ingrave Road/Ongar Road)

Diversion routes will be in place via Queens Road and Kings Road and Parking bay suspensions will be in place along the High Street for the duration of the works.

Buses will be on diversion for the duration of the works. Diversion routes will be in place. During these essential works, please follow diversions and plan extra time for your journeys.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on High Street at the junction of Crown Street from 06/10/25 to 27/10/25.

    Collaborative working

To reduce future disruptions, we are collaborating with Essex Highways Authority who will be resurfacing the High Street at the same time, providing smoother, safer roads for the future.

The High Street will be fully closed to vehicles and affective becomes pedestrianised for the duration of both our works.

The street market will not be impacted by our joint work.

The final phases there will be lane closures in place.

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
