We are working at the junction of Storeton Lane and Barnston Road, to carry out urgent repairs to the local gas network. Rachel Endfield, Customer Operations Area Manager, Cadent, has provided this update:

“Late last night (8th January) we responded to a report of a smell of gas.

“My team took immediate action to make everything safe and today we are working with specialist equipment to pinpoint the source within the local network as quickly as we can.

“Our work area is taking up a large part of the road, at the junction of Storeton Lane and Barnston Road. Unfortunately, we have had no other option than to close Storeton Lane to facilitate this, with a diversion in place. I appreciate this is far from ideal, but hope people understand the necessity for this.

“We have ensured that gas supply to the local area stays on, which is important given that the temperature has dipped and customers need gas to keep warm in their homes.

“We appreciate your patience as we work as safely and as efficiently as we can to get this resolved as soon as possible.

“If you smell gas, please act immediately and call the gas emergency service on 0800 111 999*. Please do not assume it is related to this. It may not be and needs to be checked out.”

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
