Scrum, tackle, maul and hand-off are not usual terms for our North London engineers however, for asset data capture administrator, Shannon Ikahihifo (nee Leota) they are very familiar terms, as she has been named in Ireland's Women's Rugby team for the Six Nations.

Shannon, originally from New Zealand now lives and works in West London, will be flying over to Dublin this weekend for a three-week training camp, where she hopes to be selected to represent Ireland in the upcoming Guinness Women's Six Nations competition. With a degree in engineering, Shannon has been working for Cadent for five months, whilst also following her dream to play rugby professionally.

"I am so excited to be going to Dublin, and being invited to camp is a dream come true. I'm incredibly grateful that my line manager and Cadent have been so supportive and accommodating, allowing me to balance my work with training. This way, I feel that I can make the most of this opportunity, whilst also ensuring that I can perform at my best for Cadent too." explained Shannon.

Whilst not at work, she spends her time playing rugby and has captained the Trailfinders Women rugby team during their Allianz Cup campaign and has been Vice-Captain in the Allianz PWR. After her strong performances in both the cup and the premiership, she was selected to represent Ireland in their squad.

Good luck Shannon and we hope you get picked for the team!

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
