    • Road closure Beckton Road
    • Diversions in place
    • CISBOT robot to be used to repair pipe

Part of Beckton Road will be closed from the junction with Bernard Cassidy Street and Morgan Street from 3 January to 12 February whilst a section of gas pipe is repaired. Diversions have been put in place for the duration of the works.

New robot technology will be used called Cisbot to repair the large 48” gas pipe. This technology will help reduce the size of any excavation and the time we need to complete the work in the area.

A Cadent spokesman explained, “Using this robot system helps to reduce the time and space we need to carry out our repairs. One excavation is all that is needed to get to the gas pipe. Then we put a camera into the pipe to find the areas that need to be repaired, then we put the robot into the pipe. Off it goes and sprays a sealant around the pipe where it needs to be repaired.

“In this case, our excavation is deep, hence the need to close a section of Beckton Road. It’s for the safety of everyone, road users, pedestrians and engineers, whilst we carry out the repair. We understand this can be inconvenience, however, this is actually the quickest and easiest way to carry out this repair, compared to more traditional methods.

“We ask for people’s patience whilst we carry out this essential work.”

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
