A joint initiative between the Gas Distribution Networks and the Distribution Network Operators has seen the launch of a new website which offers a quicker and more straight forward process for energy customers to sign up to the Priority Services Register (PSR).
The new website thepsr.co.uk offers a one-stop-shop approach, providing valuable information and tools for energy customers with additional needs in England, Scotland and Wales.
The website is part of energy operators’ work to provide extra support for those who need it most through the Priority Services Register. Eligible customers can sign up for free to the PSR by contacting their local network operator and energy supplier. By simply entering their postcode into the new website, customers will be directed to their relevant energy operator’s PSR page, helping make their registration process as simple as possible.
The website has been designed to be a single reference point for the NHS, local authorities, charities and other partners to direct their service users towards. The website is the result of a collaborative initiative led by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution.
Jo Giles, Cadent’s Customer Safeguarding Senior Manager said: "We're proud to have been involved in the journey of making it easier to access the PSR. We work with many national partners who have stated the need for a simpler route to register and this new website will enable partners, and collaborative projects across the industry, to direct customers to one point of information. The project entailed collaboration of 10 energy distributors which has never been undertaken before and is something we all hope will continue in the future".
Gillian Cooper, Head of Energy Policy for Citizens Advice, said: “Not being on the PSR could mean people in vulnerable circumstances missing out on vital support they're entitled to. We look forward to seeing how this new website can help consumers get the support offered by energy companies.
“Even if someone is not eligible, there may be other support available. Citizens Advice is here to help anyone who needs it. Our website has more information or we can be contacted easily via the phone".

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.
Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
