We are pleased to confirm that we were able to stop the gas escape yesterday afternoon (23/10/25) from the damaged pipe in the field off Heywood Road, near Diss.

The exclusion zone will remain in place whilst the meticulous and careful work continues to remove the agricultural vehicle and replace a length of pipe, where the pipe was damaged.

This process will take some time, and we estimate that we will be on site for the next few months.

We would like to thank local residents for their patience during these emergency works.

Please be assured that Cadent engineers continue to ensure everything is safe and there remains no impact to customers’ gas supplies.

Although we have stopped the gas escaping from the damaged pipe, if you suspect a smell of gas, it could be unrelated to the work we are doing in the field and should be reported immediately. Please do call the free gas emergency service on 0800 111 999*.

We investigate each report that we receive to ensure that there are no gas leaks in your property or in the area. Making the call immediately helps us keep everyone safe.

    Background:

We received a call on Thursday 11 September 2025 reporting that one of our gas pipes in a field off Heywood Road, near Diss, had been damaged by a third party.

Our team was dispatched to the site to assess the situation and make things safe. This included the introduction of an exclusion zone around the damaged pipe to ensure that the public are kept safe.

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
