    • Essential work in Braughing will help keep residents connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating
    • More than 300 metres of metallic pipe will be reinforced
    • Customer engagement event being held in the village on Thursday 19 September

Residents and business owners in and around Braughing, Hertfordshire, are invited to attend a customer engagement event being held by Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, to learn more about essential gas works that are set to take place next month.

The event will give everyone the opportunity to learn more about the necessity for the project and how the work will affect everyone on a day-to-day basis.

The four-week project involves essential upgrades to more than 300 metres of underground pipework on the gas network so that the safe and reliable supply of gas to the area can continue.

Following consultation with Hertfordshire County Council, Cadent has agreed to carry out this essential work between Thursday 3 and Thursday 31 October, so that the reinforcement and replacement work can be carried out safely.

The work means that Ford Road will need to be closed for the project's duration with a diversion route set up to ensure traffic can flow smoothly. Gas will remain ON during the works.

Cadent Project Manager, Graham Huggett, said: “We have a responsibility to make sure every property that uses gas has access to it 24/7, 365 days a year and these essential works will mean that we continue to deliver on that promise.

“We know it’s far from ideal to have a road closure in place in what is a very busy area, but we have worked hard with the local authorities to create a plan that keeps traffic flowing and maintains access for local businesses and residents.

“We are very conscious of the disruption roadworks cause and that is why we want to hold this customer engagement event. We want people to be able to join us so they can learn more about the work that we are doing and raise any concerns that they may have.”

If you want to attend the event, please join Cadent team members on Thursday 19 September, between 10am and 2pm at the junction of Ford Street and Malting Lane in Braughing, Hertfordshire.

If you smell gas, always ring the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999*, day or night. Do not assume it is related to these planned works; it may not be and needs to be checked.

*All calls are recorded and may be monitored.

We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
