    • Gas leak calls for urgent mains replacement work on Bridge St, Bridgenorth
    • Work starts on Tuesday 11th April and is expected to take 3 weeks
    • Complex engineering works see new pipe pushed through the bridge in 3 phases

Emergency gas works will begin on Bridge Street in Bridgenorth on Tuesday 11th April and are expected to last for 3 weeks.

A gas leak on the pipe that runs through the bridge has meant that it needs to be replaced urgently. The new pipe will be made of a tough plastic which will last for many years, reducing the need for repair works.

This is a Complex operation as the pipe is to be pushed over the Bridge in 3 phases, with each phase taking one week.

Neal Prestidge, Customer Liaison Officer at Cadent said: “These are complex but vital emergency works and we need to get started as soon as possible to ensure a safe and reliable gas supply to community.

“We know that this is a busy road, but it is vital that we replace this main and we really appreciate everyone’s patience”

To protect residents and the engineers working on the bridge, there will need to be the following traffic management in place:

    11th April 2023 –2nd May 2023
Two – way signals on Bridge Street at the junction of Mill Street

    18th April – 25th April 2023
Lane closure and two – way signals over the bridge

    25th April – 2nd May 2023
Multiway signals on Bridge St and the junction of Cartway St and Bridge St

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
