    Gas repair work underway on Bedford footpath

    Engineers from Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, began emergency gas repair work in The Slipe, Bedford, earlier this week following reports of the smell of gas.

    The repairs are expected to last for a minimum of three weeks, but as a result, a large section of the footpath will need to be closed to ensure that work can be carried out as safely and as quickly as possible.

    The footpath will be closed from today (Friday 3 November) between Queens Bridge in Kempston and the pedestrian footbridge at the rear of Palgrave Road. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to leave extra time for their journeys and to use the footpaths and cycle lanes through Queens Park and Kempston instead.

    Cadent’s Customer Operations Area Manager for Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, Richard Davies Jnr, said: “We know that the Slipe is a very well used path that links Kempston, Queens Park and Great Denham to the town centre, but given the repair work that needs to take place, we’ve been left with no option but to close a section of the path.

    “We would like to thank customers for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience experienced as we complete this important repair work.”
