End is in sight for Woodbridge mains replacement

in your area

  • Emergency road closure announced for tonight
  • Replacement work programme set to be completed early
  • Road will be fully reopen tomorrow morning

Residents and motorists in Suffolk will need to be aware of a final emergency road closure tonight, Tuesday 19 December, as Cadent is carrying out final essential works to make sure there is a safe and reliable network in the local area.

Following two emergency closures last week, Cadent, which manages the local gas distribution network, will be completing their work of replacing almost half a mile of pipework that runs under the A12, Grove Road, in Woodbridge.

Work along the A12 was due to be completed by Friday 22 December, but Cadent’s engineers have finished ahead of schedule and the road is almost ready to be fully reopened.

Tonight's full closure of the A12 Grove Road is necessary so that temporary road markings can be removed with permanent ones being installed.

The road will be closed from 8pm this evening and Cadent has worked with the local council to arrange diversion routes which will be set up to ensure that traffic continues to flow.

The road will fully reopen from 8am on Wednesday19 December.

We would once again like to thank customers in advance for their patience and we apologise for any inconvenience that tonight’s closure may cause.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
