The Cadent Apprenticeships and Graduate programme have scoped top accolades for their quality, enjoyment and learning experience by the Job Crowd.

For Apprenticeships, Cadent have been ranked first in the UK for enjoyment of role – high praise from our apprentices, as the rankings are compiled exclusively on employee feedback, covering company culture, work/life balance, training, responsibility, and enjoyment.

We were also ranked 7th in the Top 50 Companies for Apprentices to work for and 34th in the Top 100 Companies for Graduates to work for in the rankings by The Job Crowd. When compared to other employers with the Energy Utilities Sector, Cadent were ranked 2nd for apprenticeships, and 4th for graduates.

Martin Rimmer, Chief People Officer said: “As the rankings are compiled based on feedback directly from our apprentices and graduates, I’m extremely proud of the results, they’re testament to the quality and diverse nature of the programmes we offer those in the early stages of careers within the Utilities industry, the excellent industry focused skills our people develop throughout their training programmes at Cadent, and the way those skills directly map forward to future career paths.

“These accolades are an important chance to reflect on our achievements, having grown the variety of training routes and the growing number of people choosing them into the sector. It’s also a time to celebrate the achievements of each of our Cadent apprentices and graduates, and the teams who support them through their learning journeys.

“We have a vital role in supporting our customers across our Networks, and we’re passionate about recruiting, training, and developing a diverse workforce that represents them. As well as creating industry leading learning pathways for the essential skills needed to drive forward our Hydrogen aspirations.”

Calum Bennett (pictured), Electrical and Instrumental Network Technician in the East Midlands said: “I came into the apprenticeship programme at 19 after working in manufacturing. The learning process of the apprenticeship was very well guided and structured to the job role we’d be moving into. This allowed all candidates to grow and learn.

“Within my apprenticeship cohort, we have travelled around the UK for some of the training courses, which helped me to make some very close friends, despite us all living in different parts of the country.”

“I will soon be starting a new role as Electrical and Instrumental Assessor/Trainer, supporting other apprentices on their two-year or four-year learning journey. I’m proud that from my initial apprenticeship a few years ago, I’ve developed my career within Cadent, and I will now be making a difference for other apprentices.”

Studying for an apprenticeship at Cadent is a paid role, where the apprentice learns and gains valuable experiences for their future career. Alongside on-the-job training, our apprentices spend at least 20% of their working hours completing classroom-based learning, which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

We will welcome our next cohort of apprentices in November 2022, we’ve already received nearly 60 applications for the apprenticeship scheme, and applications are still open, more details can be found on our website.

Maxwell Haines (pictured below), Business Graduate said: “Having joined the Cadent Business Graduate Programme after completing my degree in 2021, I have had a wonderful experience with the company. From the outset, Cadent made it clear to us the value that they place on their graduates, supported by the regular and engaging training events hosted for us that range from one day to one week. This training not only looks to enhance your understanding of the business, but also focuses on personal professional development.

“Cadent allow you to take control of your own career path within the organisation. With a structure of three six-month placements, you are encouraged to cast your net out across the business and experience as many areas of possible, allowing your professional expertise to become multidimensional.“The thing I’ve valued most in my experience so far is the fact that I’m listened to. I really feel valued as I see my contributions be trusted to action upon. It’s fantastic for building confidence at this early stage of our careers.”

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
