Cheshire: details of new diversion route during major gas pipe work

in your area

A new traffic diversion route has been agreed for the 15-week closure of King Street in Rudheath, which starts on Monday 8 January.

Local gas network Cadent wrote to residents earlier this month, to explain it is replacing 3km of gas mains which run directly under the A530.

Since then, after further meetings with Cheshire West and Chester Council, neighbouring local authorities and other agencies, and after talking to local residents, a new diversion route has been agreed.

Road signs will now direct traffic to avoid the King Street road closure by using the A556, A533 and A54. A map showing the diversion route is being sent to all properties directly affected by the road closure.

Cadent co-ordinated a drop-in session on Thursday 14 December, for residents and other interested parties to learn more about this project. A second event will take place on Saturday 6 January, at St Mary’s Church, 2 New King Street, Middlewich. The event runs from 10am to 2pm and no appointment is necessary. Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
