Disconnecting your gas supply

If you live in the North West, West Midlands, East Midlands, South Yorkshire, East of England or North London and no longer need gas at your home, we’re here to help you disconnect the gas supply.

There are many reasons why you may wish to disconnect your gas supply, ranging from changing fuel type to demolition and reconstruction. The requirements and lead times are site specific and relate to the type of property and gas supply.

It's easy to get in touch with our Connections Team, just call us on 0800 0745 788 and let us take care of your gas disconnection needs.

Get started

Here are the steps that we will take you through to get you disconnected. Don't worry, we’ll stay in touch along the way to make sure it's going smoothly and you’re happy with everything.
  • Apply

Either fill in our online application form, or give us a call and we'll work through your application with you.

  • Initial preparation

You need to discuss your disconnection plans with your existing supplier and arrange for your gas meter to be removed.

  • Receive quote and make payment

You will have up to 90 days to send in your signed acceptance and pay for the works. When we receive your acceptance, we will contact you to agree the start date.

  • Site survey

We'll arrange to meet you on-site to discuss your requirements and the options that might be available.

  • Planning works

On average, it takes 6-8 weeks from payment to carry out your works.

  • Site preparation

We will give you a call the week before works are due to start to make sure everything is ready.

  • Works complete

Once we're finished, we'll let you know when it is safe to resume works on-site, for example if you're demolishing a property.

How soon can I get disconnected?

We're always working to reduce our lead times and to get your disconnection completed as soon as possible. Once you’ve accepted our quote and paid for the service our delivery team will begin planning your work, and works will normally be completed in around 6-8 weeks. We will always try to offer the earliest date available.

We are required to disconnect supplies close to or at the main. If this is located in the roadway, this will require traffic management to grant us access and may increase lead times depending on highway authorities.

Information you'll need

Before you apply for a quote, please make sure you have the following information to hand:

  • Full address of the property to be disconnected.
  • Diameter of the gas pipe being disconnected (if known - if not don’t worry, we can help).
  • Type, size and serial number of the gas meter currently fitted (if known - if not don't worry, we can help).
  • Layout of plans showing any intended siteworks if you are making changes to your property. Call us to tell us about your your plans and requirements.
