Our Graduate Programme

Share our passion for keeping the energy flowing and play a vital role in shaping the future of the UK’s largest gas network. As one of our Graduate Trainees, you’ll have an impact on our business from day one as you navigate your way through a wide range of placement opportunities across our business, experiencing both an operational and a commercial environment.
Our placements will professionally and personally challenge you and help you to build the skills and experience you need to emerge at the top of your profession. You’ll experience a variety of comprehensive and challenging training modules, ranging from hands on technical training to personal development/soft skills training.
And, you’ll be supported every step of the way by our dedicated New Talent Team, managers and colleagues. At the end of the programme, you’ll have the opportunity to move into a full-time role within our business. From here, there’ll be no limit to how far you can develop and progress your career.

You can join our Graduate Programme on one of two potential streams:


Throughout your 25-month programme, you’ll navigate through four, six-month placements which have been carefully tailored to support you in achieving your potential as an engineer of the future.

Our Graduate Programme is Accredited by IGEM. We offer mentorship through to Professional Registration, which you’ll start whilst on the programme. You’ll be supported and encouraged through your journey of professional development, with opportunities to develop the Engineering Councils UK SPEC competencies.

Engineering Graduate opportunities
Our Engineering Graduate opportunities are available across various teams within our engineering functions such as: Operations, Safety & Assurance, Investment Planning Office, Safety and Network Strategy Teams.

Throughout your 19-month programme, you’ll navigate through three, six-month placements, which will provide a wide range of experience across our business and help you develop into a leader of the future.

Business Graduate opportunities
Our Business Graduate opportunities are available across various teams within our business functions such as: Operations, Network Support, Investment Planning Office, Customer Centre, Regulation, Human Resources and our Cadent Foundation Team.

Training and Qualifications

You’ll gain exposure to some of the best training and qualifications around. Our training package focuses on developing your skills in three key areas:

  • Business
  • Leadership
  • Technical training

You’ll learn in a dedicated training environment, perfectly suited to graduates fresh from university. Our training environment is of the highest quality and you’ll be paid while you train. As an engineer, part of your professional development will be starting the route to professional status (Incorporated or Chartered).
To support you we will assign you a mentor, cover application and membership costs, and provide placements that give you the opportunities you need to showcase engineering competencies. IGEM agree that we provide our graduates with the highest level of support they need to develop and have Accredited our graduate programme!
