Our Apprenticeship Programme
Whatever stage you’re at in your career, as long as you have the relevant qualifications, together with plenty of enthusiasm, curiosity and bags of motivation, you’ll go far on one of our Field Force Apprenticeship Programmes.
From day one you’ll work alongside some of the brightest engineering minds and, over the next two or three years’ depending which programme you choose, will gain in-depth technical knowledge and build sought-after skills. Earning while you learn, you’ll receive plenty of early responsibility and be supported to professionally develop as you journey towards achieving your Trailblazer Apprenticeship qualification. You’ll have the added opportunity of gaining a permanent position at the end of the programme too.
There are three programmes to choose from:
- Operate and Maintain
Working as a Repair Support Apprentice is all about keeping the nation safe. You’ll be partnered-up with an expert in the field and quickly learn the right ways to keep the energy flowing, as you respond to gas escapes, day or night. Working outdoors on gas mains and liaising with the public, you’ll become the friendly face of Cadent in the community. It’s your chance to develop new skills, gain experience and use the specialist equipment needed to build a strong future in engineering.

Our Emergency Response Apprentices become the future gas experts. After being fully trained by experienced professionals, you’ll be qualified to act as the first responder to gas escapes across the network. It’s an exciting role. Every day will be different. And you’ll be proud to know that you’re playing a vital part in keeping our customers safe and supplied with the gas they need round the clock. Often working out of hours and alone (with support on hand if you need it), you can look forward to a long, satisfying career.
Operate and Maintain
As an Electrical and Instrumentation Apprentice in our Operate and Maintain team, you’ll make a big impact on millions of people – without them even knowing about it. This role really is about keeping the energy flowing – quietly and consistently. Learning new skills all the time, you’ll make sure our network is well maintained, safe and working perfectly.
Our gas network reaches every corner of the UK. That’s a lot of pipework and it takes a lot of specialist equipment to keep in top condition. Over the course of four years, we’ll also train you in everything from cable testing through to the maintenance of our control systems and everything in between.
Why choose a Cadent Apprenticeship?

You’ll then be in a position to choose what area of engineering you’d like to develop your career in.
