Our Future Field-Force Programme

Whatever stage you’re at in your career, as long as you have the relevant qualifications, together with plenty of enthusiasm, curiosity and bags of motivation, you’ll go far on one of our Future Field-Force Engineering Programmes.
 
From day one you’ll work alongside some of the brightest engineering minds and, over the next two to four years, depending which programme you choose, will gain in-depth technical knowledge and build sought-after skills. Earning while you learn, you’ll receive plenty of early responsibility and be supported to professionally develop as you journey towards achieving your Trailblazer Future Field-Force qualification. You’ll have the added potential to gain a permanent position at the end of the programme too.

Operate and maintainEnergy Operations

As a Network Service Technician (Pressure Control and Storage) Future Field-Force in our Energy Operations team, you’ll make a big impact on millions of people – without them even knowing about it.

This role really is about keeping the energy flowing – quietly and consistently. Learning new skills all the time, you’ll make sure our network is well maintained, safe and working perfectly.
 
Over the course of three years, we’ll train you in everything from routine maintenance and fault finding, to rectification on a wide range of assets and equipment used in our networks - and everything in between.

Electrical and Instrumentation

As a Network Service Technician Future Field-Force in our Electrical and Instrumentation team, you’ll ensure our network is well maintained, safe and working perfectly.

Our gas network reaches every corner of the UK. That’s a lot of pipework, and it takes a lot of specialist equipment to keep in top condition. That’s where you come in.  
Over the course of 4 years, we’ll also train you in everything from cable testing through to the maintenance of our control systems and everything in between!

Repair supportRepair Team Leader

Working as a Repair Team Leader Future Field-Force is all about keeping the nation safe.

You’ll be partnered-up with an expert in the field and quickly learn the right ways to keep the energy flowing, as you respond to gas escapes, day or night. Working outdoors on gas mains and liaising with the public, you’ll become the friendly face of Cadent in the community.

It’s your chance to develop new skills, gain experience and use the specialist equipment needed to build a strong future in engineering.

Emergency responseEmergency Response

Our First Response Customer Technician Future Field-Force become the future gas experts.

After being fully trained by experienced professionals, you’ll be qualified to act as the first responder to gas escapes across the network. It’s an exciting role. Every day will be different. And you’ll be proud to know that you’re playing a vital part in keeping our customers safe and supplied with the gas they need round the clock.

Often working out of hours and alone (with support on hand if you need it), you can look forward to a long, satisfying career.

Whilst studying on an Future Field-Force, you’ll receive all the same benefits as other Cadent employees. This includes:

  • 25 days’ holiday, plus eight statutory days and an option to buy or sell holiday days.
  • A generous pension scheme, where we double match your contributions up to 6%. So, if you pay in 6% Cadent will pay in 12%, giving you an 18% contribution into your pension each month. Any payments over 6% are treated as additional voluntary contributions.
