Essential work is taking place from 24 July, during the school summer holidays to upgrade the gas distribution pipes in Bristol Gardens, W9, London.
Cadent, which manages your local gas network, is calling time on an old metallic pipe currently under the road, as it is showing signs of its age. Cadent teams have carried out urgent repairs in this area on a number of separate occasions.
Upgrading the pipeline to tough, durable, long-lasting plastic means an end to that unplanned, disruptive work – and, just as importantly, ensures the network is safely carrying gas to heat your homes, provide hot water and cook your food.
Across the UK, all metallic pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being upgraded in this way, in a major investment by the gas distribution networks.
When the work is happening in Bristol Gardens?
It will take place over 16 weeks, starting Monday 24 July 2023. There are two phases.
Phase 1 starts on
24 July and should last approximately 6 weeks. This will require a road closure from the junction of Bristol Gardens and Formosa Street to the turning for Bristol Mews. We will need to work at the roundabout, but there will be temporary traffic lights in place to maintain traffic flow. The team will work with residents to maintain access to driveways and for emergency vehicles. Diversions will be signposted for other traffic.
Phase 2 begins immediately after the end of Phase 1 and will require a road closure at the other end of the road from the junction of Bristol Gardens and Clifton Villas to the turning for Bristol Mews. This will be in place for 10 weeks.
Phase 1 of the work has been scheduled in for the school summer holiday period to minimise disruption to the local community and amenities.
Our teams on site will work with you to accommodate residential and emergency vehicle parking where required. Access for residents in Bristol Mews will be maintained throughout.
Drop-in session
We have worked closely with London Borough of Westminster Highways Authority and your local ward councillors to plan this in a way which minimises disruption as much as possible. However, we also wanted to provide you with an opportunity to come and talk to us about the project.
Place: St Saviour’s C of E Primary School, Shirland Road, Little Venice, London, W9 2JD
Date and time: Monday 17 July 2023 from 17:30.
Upgrading the pipes that carry gas to your property
Our team will also be upgrading the service pipes along this same stretch. Service pipes are the smaller diameter pipes that take gas into each property from the bigger main in the road. If you live on Stanley Hill, within the area of the three phases, we will talk to you in advance to explain how all this happens and answer any questions you may have. To avoid any doubt, there is no cost to you for this work.
