Beachcombers on a mission: Over 40 Cadent volunteers clean-up Southend beach

helping our community in your area

  • Cadent joins forces with Keep Britain Tidy campaign for clean-up operation on Southend-On-Sea beach
  • 1600m of beach combed with rubbish collected including shoes and champagne bucket
  • Event combined team building and giving back to the community
Stalwart Cadent volunteers took time out from their busy schedules to give back to the
community for an epic litter pick on Southend-On-Sea beach.
Over 40 volunteers from Cadent’s CMAC (Contract Management & Control) team
journeyed to the resort from across the East of England and North London regions for a
day of teambuilding and tidying up.
The volunteers enjoyed a clear and sunny weather as they combed approximately
1600m of the beach collecting assorted rubbish as they went. Some of the more
eclectic items removed from the beach included five pairs of shoes and a champagne
Cadent organised the clean-up activity with Keep Britain Tidy. Other activities on the day included a quiz and team meeting.
The event represented a change from the team’s day job of working to ensure people stays connected to safe and reliable gas supplies by overseeing the replacement of thousands of kilometres of ageing gas mains and service pipes across the region .

Monisha Gower, Director of Cadent GDSP (Gas Distribution Service Provider) Contract in the East and North London said: "The day provided the ideal opportunity for our team to reconnect with one another while also giving something back to one of the communities we serve and benefitting the environment.
“Our day job helps ensure local communities keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies but sometimes this work can be disruptive despite our best efforts, so it’s good to be able to help out where we can with volunteering events like this.”
She added: “We spoke to some local residents who were amazed that some of us
had come from as far away as the Midlands to help tidy their local beach.”

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
