Chester: emergency works under way to repair gas pipe under A5116 Liverpool Road

in your area

Emergency works are taking place to repair a gas pipe under A5116 Liverpool Road, Chester.

Cadent, which manages the local gas network, moved onto this busy road last night after receiving reports of a smell of gas.

Its engineers worked through the night on repairs and managed to keep gas flowing to local homes, while ensuring everyone’s safety.

The current work area now needs to be expanded, requiring a temporary road closure.

The road is closed from Liverpool Road to the Countess Way roundabout (heading into Chester). Liverpool Road is open coming out of Chester.

A diversion route will be signposted and motorists are advised to use one of the alternative routes for the time being.

Rachel Endfield, Customer Operations Area Manager, Cadent, said: “The action my team took last night has ensured gas keeps flowing and safely.

“However, we do need to expand our work area now to complete the repairs on the pipe, which does unfortunately mean a one-way road closure.

“We are very conscious of the disruption this is causing and we will work as quickly as we safely can.”

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
