Gas team brings a little Christmas cheer (and Santa) to Crewe

helping our community

Gas workers spread a little festive cheer in Crewe last night as they arranged a surprise visit from Santa and gifts for local children.

Teams working for local gas network Cadent have become a feature of the Wistaston community in recent months, as they go about upgrading old gas mains.

So, they decided to bring a smile to the faces of families by slowly driving around 40 streets in decorated vehicles and arranging for Father Christmas to make an appearance.

They also handed out 500 selection boxes to local children.

The kind act has generated a lot of praise on social media overnight.

“I loved this,” said one. “Watched them through the window. Fair play to them. They’ve been part of the community for months. So polite and hard working. Really made me smile tonight.”

Another resident said: “Lovely gesture. Cheered me up on my way home from work.”

“Thank you. They made our children’s day and cheered me up,” wrote another.

Gas mains that feed thousands of homes are being upgraded in the Crewe area by Cadent.

The old metallic mains are being replaced with hard-wearing plastic pipes that will ensure safe distribution of gas for many years to come.

This also helps get the local network ready for the introduction of greener gases such as hydrogen.

Watch this space for possible extra surprise visits over the coming weeks…

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
