▪ Temporary traffic management will be in place
▪ Work will keep gas flowing until the end of the century
Wednesday (4 May) will see the start of a three-week engineering project in the Worsborough Bridge area of Barnsley to keep gas flowing to local homes until the end of the century.
National Grid engineers will be renewing 600 metres of new pipes in High Street, Worsborough Broadway and Bank End. The existing iron mains will be replaced with tough, long-lasting plastic pipes that will last for at least 80 years.
To carry out the work safely for all concerned temporary three-way traffic lights will be in place at the junction of Bank End and High Street in Worsborough Broadway. There will also be two-way temporary traffic signals on Station Road.
To minimise any possible disruption and to carry out the project as quickly as possible work will take place on Sunday 8 May and Sunday 15 May, if needed. On these two days four-way temporary traffic lights will be operating on the B6100 where Thicket Lane, Station Road, High Street and West Street meet.
National Grid Authorising Engineer Paul Martin said: “Our work in Barnsley is vital to ensure that local people continue to enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply for decades to come.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience caused and we will make every effort to minimise any disruption and complete the work as soon as possible.”
For any enquiries about this work people should contact National Grid’s customer services team on 0800 096 5678.
