- Dolly Parton works nine to five with Filbert Fox
- Super-heroes She-Ra and Batgirl team up to hand out cakes
Children in Need has received another bumper cheque for more than £2,300 from the team at National Grid after a fun-filled day at work.
Over the last decade the generous staff at National Grid Hinckley has raised tens of thousands of pounds and enjoyed themselves in doing so.
And last Friday’s event was no exception with employees coming to work as their childhood hero or super-hero.
Leanne Thomasson, a National Grid organiser, raided the dressing-up box to come as singer Dolly Parton. She was joined by Leicester City mascot Filbert Fox, and super-heroes She-Ra and Batgirl.
During the lunch hour She-Ra – the Princess of Power – put down her invincible sword of protection and visited a nearby nursing home.
Along with Dolly, Filbert and Batgirl they handed out delicious home-made cakes, baked by the National Grid team, to residents at the nearby Ashton Care Home.
Leanne said: “It was a great feeling to brighten up someone’s day by turning up as childhood heroes and super-heroes. It not only made the residents feel young again but us as well. We wanted to do something for a local charity as well as Children in Need. Giving is good and it makes you feel good.
“We’ve supported Children in Need for a decade and the generosity of our staff is exceptional. Everyone at National Grid is a hero – and Dolly Parton is mine. We’d like to thank everyone so much for continuing to support this wonderful worthwhile annual event.”
Apart from prizes for the best costume employees also gave a make-over to Pudsey – the iconic symbol of the charity. And there were raffles, quizzes, henna tattooing and home-made cakes for sale.
