- Employees set to raise £40,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support
- 12 hours to scale Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough
An intrepid National Grid Hinckley duo are gearing up for the daunting Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, this weekend, to help raise over £40,000 for charity.
Jodie Carnall and Stephanie van Rosse will be joining 40 National Grid colleagues from across the country as they scale the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough on Saturday (22nd August), in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The gruelling challenge, which covers a distance of 24 miles, is equal to scaling Ben Nevis nearly twice in just 12 hours.
The duo have already raised more than £1,300. They hope their efforts and those of their colleagues will help generate over £40,000 for people living with cancer and their families.
Jodie, of Barwell, said: “I enjoy fitness and walking and cancer charities are close to my heart. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the weekend than raising money for charity and it could be fun!”

National Grid Head of Cable Tunnels David Luetchford will be leading the team. He said: “I’m proud that so many of our employees have volunteered to take on this challenge. All the money we raise from this event will fund heating grants for people living with cancer. At National Grid we are aiming to raise £500,000 for Macmillan and our generous employees have already raised an impressive £390,000. Events like this one will undoubtedly help us to hit our target.”
National Grid has pledged to match every penny raised by employees taking part in the event. The company has a two-year fundraising partnership with Macmillan and this one of many challenges employees have undertaken to support the charity.
National Grid is confident that employees will reach their half a million pound fundraising target by the end of the partnership in December. This money will be used to pay the energy bills of almost 2,000 patients and families living with cancer.
