- Christmas jumpers make a come-back.
- National Grid Hinckley team raises money with knitwear.
- Reindeer and snowflakes most popular designs.
The Christmas jumper – once scorned and derided – is making a come-back and is now the must have thing for the season.
It hit its lowest moment in the film Bridget Jones when Mr Darcy (Colin Firth) turned up for afternoon tea wearing his reindeer jumper.
But now that design – along with snowflakes and Father Christmas – is the most popular in a rapidly increasing market.
Now staff at National Grid Hinckley have embraced the freedom of a Christmas Jumper day – as well as raising money for charity.
Last Friday (19th December) they paid £1, to wear their most outrageous outfits to work.
The festive fashion feast raised £645 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Tanya Upton, National Grid organiser, said: "It's funny how the Christmas jumper is now the thing to wear – it used to be something your Nan made and you hid at the back of the wardrobe.
'As always, the National Grid team, threw themselves into the day and we all had a good time for a really worthwhile cause that is Macmillan."
Macmillan was voted by National Grid employees as its chosen charity last year and aims to raise £500,000 over the next two years.
The company is looking to provide 2,500 emergency fuel grants to people who are suffering with cancer.
Macmillan improves the lives of people affected by cancer by providing practical, medical and financial support.
