Gas pipe upgrade on Queen’s Drive, Liverpool

in your area

Essential work starts this Monday (5 February) to upgrade a section of gas pipe which serves hundreds of properties in Liverpool.

Local gas network Cadent is replacing old metal mains pipes with durable plastic, to ensure safe and reliable supplies to the end of the century.

The mains pipe under Queen’s Drive, near The Rocket pub, is the next section to be upgraded as part of this nationwide scheme.

One lane of the two-lane carriageway, from the turning left off Bowring Park Road, towards Childwall/Wavertree, will be closed to traffic in stages for the 45-day duration.

The work area runs for about 200 metres. There will also be a road closure on Glendevon Road, at its junction with Queen’s Drive.

“This is essential work, to replace a pipe that’s now showing signs of its age with a new one that will last at least 80 years,” said a spokesman for Cadent.

“This is a busy road and we have to work in it as the pipe we’re replacing is underneath the road surface.

“We can contain our works to one lane though, so traffic can continue to use the outside lane of the two lanes of Queen’s Drive.

“Pedestrian access should not be affected and we don’t anticipate any interruption to gas supply.”

Letters have been sent to every house and property directly affected. The project’s customer team can also be contacted on 0161 703 1000.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
