    Loss of gas - Ingham 10 Jul 2024 12: 30 PM

    Hammersmith Bridge, London

    Diversion of gas main

Hammersmith Bridge was closed in 2019 due to the integrity of the foundations of the bridge.

Cadent own and maintain the gas network in the area.  We have two pipes on the bridge, which supply gas to homes and businesses in Barnes, Mortlake and Putney.  We have been requested to decommission both gas pipes on Hammersmith Bridge.

    What are we doing?

We need to lay a new gas pipe before we are able to divert the gas from the two pipes on Hammersmith Bridge, ensuring the gas supply to the local area is maintained at all times.

The work starts on 6 March 2023 for 12-14 months, to lay 2.5km (1.6 miles) of a new gas pipe.  Once this is completed, we will divert the gas from the two gas pipes on the bridge into the new pipe.

Gas supplies will not be interrupted.

We will be laying the new gas pipe from the junction of Station Road / Rocks Lane onto Castelnau.

Once the new pipe has been laid, we will make a new connection that will divert the gas supply away from the pipes on Hammersmith Bridge. This will ensure gas can continue to reliably flow to customers on both sides of the river.

The work will be completed in 50 metre phases, with traffic management in place to reduce disruption where possible.

Various types of traffic management will be put in place throughout the project phases.  At times parking bays will be affected but we will keep you informed when this will occur and where.
