Cadent are currently carrying out works on a leak from an old gas main that runs underneath the M60, north of Manchester.
The leak is located between Junction 16 and 17 at a depth of about four metres and the pipe runs across all eight lanes, and the two hard shoulders of this incredibly busy motorway. The motorway reopened, and gas now flows safely to the thousands of homes which take a feed from this pipe. This situation will remain under constant monitoring, however, is not something we can leave for a long period unresolved.
We now have an agreed plan, which involves inserting around 210 metres of new plastic main through the old spun iron main across the M60 motorway. with no interruption to traffic, nor any interruption to supply Work will then commence (w/c 1 Feb) on the main task, to create a safe system for gas to continue flowing, before then pushing the new pipe through the old one.
As an UIP/IGT you will have a critical role in ensuring this impact is kept to a minimum.
To help us to protect our Network we are asking if you have any work – planned or emergency – taking place on or near to our medium pressure network in the Manchester, Rochdale and Salford area, between now and the middle of March, it is vital you contact us.
Before you commence any site work, we will need to assess what impact it will have on the network. It is possible we will require you to postpone until after these works on the M60 work have completed. If you have any works please call Laura Cheshire 07811 979680 in the first instance and forward correspondence to firstname.lastname@example.org
Keeping gas flowing to our customers is a priority and we need our UIP/IGT community to work with us by ensuring you contact us before you commence any siteworks in the impacted areas around Manchester.
Any works not highlighted could be putting at risk our ability to keep customers on gas.
We thank you for your co-operation and urgent attention to this matter.
