Cadent’s launches its first hydrogen chatbot using Google Cloud

future of energy

Have you ever wondered if hydrogen is vegan friendly, how it can be used to heat your home or just wanted to know more about hydrogen?

Today (20/10/2020) Cadent is launching its first chatbot focused on hydrogen by collaborating with Google Cloud Technology.  The chatbot can answer over 200 questions about hydrogen and its potential role in providing green energy for the net zero future.  It’s designed to answer questions from the general public and anyone wishing to find out more about hydrogen, its role in sustainability and more information on Cadent’s hydrogen and green gas projects.

This hydrogen chatbot is the latest in a line of hydrogen innovations from Cadent which also include HyDeploy at Keele - the UK’s first demonstration of using a hydrogen blend for domestic heat; HyMotion which provides a blueprint for decarbonising heavy transport; and HyNet which has been adopted by the North West as the basis for its future hydrogen economy.

“Google Cloud’s technology has enabled us to build this chatbot to cater for a digital audience.  This is part of our mission to ensure the general public has more knowledge about green energy and to share with them all the benefits that hydrogen can bring as a low carbon gas in a net zero future.” Said Dr Angela Needle, Director of Strategy at Cadent.

Rajh Das, Manufacturing and Industrial Lead UK&I, Google Cloud added, “Building conversational interfaces can give customers quick answers to frequently asked questions & reduce friction in websites and apps. We are pleased to see how Cadent have applied Google Dialogflow to engage with their customers and users and look forward to future projects.”

If you have any unanswered questions about hydrogen, is it vegan friendly?  Does it have a smell?  How is it made? Does it occur naturally as an element on its own?  You can find answers to all of these questions at cadentgas.com/future-of-gas

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
