If you have been referred for a CO investigation, we will contact you within 24 hours, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays), working days to assess your eligibility.
For qualifying households, we will arrange for one of engineers to visit you to perform a number of safety checks in your home.
You must be eligible to join the Priority Services Register (PSR). There are many reasons you could be eligible to register – see the PSR eligibility criteria and apply here.
If you live in social housing, we are unable to complete a CO investigation at your home and you will need to contact your landlord.
Our engineers will visit your home and make a safe working area, the engineer will do some external and internal checks where readings will be taken for CO and CO2 with an analyser.
The engineer will carry out a minimum of 1 migration test using the analyser on a stand to analyse readings in a room to make sure fumes are not emitting from a neighbouring property or elsewhere. They will then do some checks on all appliances which will include a room test for atmospheric readings.
With some appliances such as cookers they may use pans with water in to mimic normal conditions.
Engineers may need access to all rooms including loft spaces when checking flues and chimneys as they have to check them through their entirety.
To ensure atmospheric tests are accurate you may be asked to leave the room, so breathing does not affect the readings. Due to the checks needed, the engineer can be in your home for quite some time.
If there is an issue with the appliance, they may have to disconnect the appliance or installation.
If we disconnect your appliance or installation, we may be able to arrange a free service, repair or replacement of the appliance and pipework so we can reconnect your gas supply, subject. This is subject to eligibility and our engineer will talk you through the next steps.
