Residents in Worcester are being advised of upcoming essential gas works which will see ageing pipelines replaced, alongside temporary changes to local transport routes.
Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, will begin a major infrastructure upgrade in Tolladine Road from Tuesday 26 May, replacing more than 750 metres of gas mains that have been in service since 1940. The scheme is expected to run for seven weeks, with completion scheduled for mid-July.
The project will take place between the junctions of Christchurch Road and Holly Mount Road and Teme Road, with additional work planned in Christchurch Road and Rose Avenue.
The upgrade will replace 86-year-old pipes with new, durable materials designed to last for decades. According to Cadent, the work will help ensure a safe, reliable gas supply for local homes - more than 80% of which rely on gas central heating.
Due to the location of the gas mains, road closures and traffic management measures will be in place throughout the project. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.
Additional works include:
Despite the disruption, access to residents will be maintained at all times.
As part of the works, bus stops located within the closed section of road will be temporarily suspended.
To ensure continued accessibility Passenger Transport has arranged a shuttle bus service, funded by Cadent. This service will help residents travel safely through the affected area during the closure.

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.
Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
