- Cadent will halt its work in London Road, Rayleigh over the Bank Holiday Weekend
- Move designed to minimise disruption for those making Bank Holiday getaways
- Project will help ensure local residents remain connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating
Essential work to replace ageing gas mains in London Road, Rayleigh, will be halted over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Planners hope the move will minimise disruption for those planning to travel over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The project began in April and work has been taking place in London Road at the junction with Wheatley Chase where temporary traffic lights have been used to manage traffic flows.
However work will stop this afternoon (Friday 25 May) and resume after the morning rush hour on Tuesday 29 May.
Cadent Authorising Engineer David Jewson said: “This work needs to be done to help ensure local people keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating however we do try to be as flexible as possible in delivering our work.
“This includes taking local factors into account when scheduling our work so we can tailor our plans accordingly as far as it’s possible to help ensure any disruption for local and road users is minimised.”
The project is currently scheduled for completion in mid-June 2018
Work also involves the replacement of gas service pipes to some properties in the area. Cadent will liaise with these properties to arrange for the work to be done. The work will require a temporary disconnection of the gas supply to each property involved to enable the new pipe to be installed.
People are reminded that they should always ask to see official identification before letting engineers into their property. All Cadent engineers carry official identity cards which should be inspected before access is granted.
