We're upgrading gas infrastructure at Tinsley Viaduct

Cadent will be carrying out essential work at Tinsley Viaduct to replace sections of critical gas infrastructure that help supply gas to homes, businesses and public services across the region.

The project forms part of our ongoing investment in the gas network to ensure it remains safe, resilient and fit for the future. We want to keep the gas flowing to the people of South Yorkshire for generations to come. By undertaking this work now, we can continue to provide a reliable gas supply whilst reducing the likelihood of future disruption caused by ageing infrastructure.

    What are we doing?

Our engineers will replace and upgrade gas pipelines attached to the structure of Tinsley Viaduct. Due to the location of the pipelines and the complexity of working on one of the region's most significant transport links, the project requires specialist engineering techniques and extensive planning.

    The work will include:

    • Installation of specialist access equipment and working platforms.
    • Inspection and removal of existing pipeline sections.
    • Installation of new gas pipeline infrastructure.
    • Testing and commissioning of the new assets.
    • Reinstatement of all working areas following completion.

    Why is this work needed?

The gas pipelines crossing Tinsley Viaduct play an important role in transporting gas across South Yorkshire. Replacing ageing infrastructure now will help maintain the long-term reliability of the network and ensure continued safe operation for the communities we serve.

Investing in our network today helps protect customers from future unplanned interruptions and supports a resilient energy system for the years ahead.

How will this affect the local area?

Due to the location of the pipelines, some traffic management will be required during the project. We are working closely with local authorities, National Highways, emergency services and other key stakeholders to carefully plan the works and minimise disruption wherever possible.

Traffic management arrangements will be introduced in phases and details will be shared with local communities before each stage begins.

We will make every effort to:

    • Maintain access for local residents and businesses.
    • Keep disruption to a minimum.
    • Complete the work safely and as efficiently as possible.
    • Provide regular updates throughout the project.
