During the evacuation of Whaley Bridge, our engineers have been working in the background to make sure the gas has kept flowing to the village and surrounding areas.
You may not have seen us, but we have been working in the area. If there had been a breach of the dam, with the turn of a single valve, we would have been able to turn off the gas supply to the whole of the Whaley Bridge to ensure it was safe. We have also kept a close eye on some of the gas pipes crossing rivers in the area too.
Luckily, the dam is in tact and today our gas emergency engineers are in Whaley Bridge to help the residents on their return. If people need help with turning their gas back on, can smell gas or have any concern about their gas supply, we are here to help.
If residents did not turn off their gas supply when they were evacuated, that is OK. You can use your gas as normal.
We would like to thank the emergency services, the local authority and agencies we have been working with over the past week, to ensure the residents of Whaley Bridge have been kept safe and can return home to a safe and reliable gas supply.
We’ve been monitoring our assets in the local area – our underground pipes and above ground installations – and everything is safe. At this stage, there is no impact to the local gas distribution network, but it’s right to be prepared and we are.
If you were evacuated yesterday, we know some of you may have been advised to switch off your gas supply. It’s OK if you didn’t manage to do that before you left – please don’t worry.
If you need any assistance with your gas supply in Whaley Bridge, contact us directly on 0800 389 8000 and we will get an engineer out straightaway.
There is some really great multi-agency collaboration going on to keep everyone safe. My team is ready to be part of that throughout this incident.
