Residents and business owners in Harleston, Norfolk, are invited to attend a public event organised by Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, to learn more about essential gas works taking place outside Harleston Sancroft Academy.
The event will give everyone the opportunity to learn more about the necessity for the project and the traffic management in effect to deliver these vital upgrades.
Between 10am and 12pm on Friday 24 July, customer teams from Cadent will have a gazebo set up in the car park of Harleston Sancroft Academy, Wilderness Lane, Harleston IP20 9DD, for people to call at and learn more about the project.
There is no need to book an appointment, just turn up and speak to the team.
The scheme involves the decommissioning of current metallic gas pipes in Wilderness Lane, which were originally laid in 1950, and replacing them with 220 metres of tough new pipes which will last for decades, future proofing the local network.
The project is part of a £123million investment this year, which will see more than 395km of gas pipes upgraded across the East of England.
Work starts on Monday 27 July and, due to the location of the gas pipe, a road closure will be in place on Wilderness Lane from outside Harleston Sancroft Academy at the junction of Cranes Meadow to the junction of London Road. A diversion route will be in operation and there will also be two-way traffic lights on London Road. Access will remain in place for residents.
Following consultation with Norfolk County Council, Cadent has agreed to carry out this essential work over a three-week period, with completion scheduled for Friday 14 August. If required, weekend work could be used to help keep the project on track.
Cadent has also spoken to Norfolk Fire Service in advance of the work, with Harleston Fire Station located nearby in Swan Lane.
Gas stays ON for the duration of work. The only interruption to supply will be to properties that take a direct feed from the pipes being replaced. Supply to these properties will be disconnected for a short while, as the property gets connected to the new pipe. Advance notice will be given, and more information will be provided to these properties.
