Due to a delay in delivery of a critical part we need to complete the final stages of this project in Flixton Road, we now expect our work to continue into February.

This is a made-to-order specialist part, which ensures a tight seal to keep gas within the pipe. There is only one company which manufactures this part (based in Germany), for this type of pipe. When the part arrived with us this week, on time, we discovered it had not been manufactured to our exact specifications. This is extremely disappointing.

We are promised that the correct part will arrive with us on 22 January and we are ready to begin the final phase soon after. It is a big, heavy part – which requires a crane to lift it into place. We require a full road closure to position everything correctly and, to minimise disruption, we have agreed to do this at weekends only.

We are unable to complete any further work until the correct part arrives – which explains why you may not have seen any activity onsite.

Unfortunately, all this means an enforced delay in completing the rest of the work. Once the part is installed, and we have tested that everything is operating correctly, we will begin the considerable work to remove the structures that are in place to enable safe working onsite, and then to reinstate the road for it to be safe to reopen fully.

This is why we have extended our permit to 20 February 2026. If we can complete sooner, we will. Thank you for continuing to bear with us as we complete this very challenging engineering project. We appreciate it has been disruptive to the local community. While our priority is to keep you safe and to keep gas flowing (this pipe helps deliver gas to 30,000 homes), we are working hard to keep the disruption to a minimum and to complete these final stages of work as quickly as possible.

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
