Gas pipes in Rounce’s Lane, Carlton Colville, are to be reinforced to help future-proof the local network for decades to come.
Cadent is set to reinforce around 120 metres of gas pipe, originally installed in 1965, helping to keep local homes and businesses connected to safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.
The project is part of Cadent’s ongoing investment to upgrade older gas mains across the East of England, replacing or reinforcing ageing pipes with modern plastic ones that are more durable and ready for the future.
Following consultation with the local highways authority, Cadent has agreed to carry out these essential gas works from Monday 10 August with the project expected to finish by Friday 4 September.
Due to the location of the gas pipes, engineers will need to work in the road and footway. The work will take place in Rounce’s Lane at the junction with St Peters Road and Uplands Road South. To keep pedestrians, road users, and engineers safe, Rounce’s Lane will be closed from the junction with St Peters Road and Uplands Road South to the junction with Woodside Close, with a signed diversion route in place.
Additional essential work will also take place in Hollow Lane from Monday 24 August until Friday 11 September. This work will require the closure of the footpath with arrangements agreed to help maintain safety while the work is carried out.
Gas supplies will remain ON for the duration of the work wherever possible. In some cases, Cadent engineers may need to alter gas services connected to the pipes being replaced. If this is required, affected customers will be contacted in advance and given more information about what this means for them.
