We’re over the moon to have won in not one, not two, but THREE categories in the Street Works UK Awards 2022. Congratulations to everyone, our winners and those shortlisted.
Our winners
Project of the Year
Mottram Moor Gas Reinforcement (North West)
A critical gas reinforcement project to maintain supplies to a local electricity generation site and local customers impacted by significant recent growth in the area. This involved open cutting large sections of one of the busiest roads in the Greater Manchester and Derbyshire area, the A57.
Through a collaborative team effort with Cadent North West Streetworks, National Highways, Tameside Council, Derbyshire County Council, Network Plus (our NW contract management organisation) and PGL Pipelines (the local delivery partner tasked with delivering the engineering work) the team where able to deliver the project six weeks ahead of schedule whilst managing excessive local traffic issues.
Here’s more about the project.

Our other shortlisted entries
Communication and Community Engagement
Woodhouse Community Gardens (East Midlands)
Whilst undertaking mains replacement in the area Cadent, Network Plus, Pipetech and Cherbind rallied to support a local community charity to complete a 3-year improvement plan over a week in August 2022. 23 colleagues volunteered, along with donations of materials and equipment to clear an overgrown area of the allotment. The team installed a new tarmac driveway, some borders, bug hotels, a pond - plus lots more. More on this story is here.
Project of the Year
Victoria Embankment Maintenance Works (North London)
By removing a section of island and implementing complex traffic management designs Cadent maintained one of the busiest cycle lanes in London whilst Energy Operations completed a 4-week scheme. Cadent successfully used Lane Rental funding from Traffic for London to reinvest utility street works costs, a great sustainable operating model whilst minimising disruption for our customers. The project received great feedback on social media from customers and stakeholders.

Ben was nominated due to his exceptional performance to reduce street works penalty costs and increase customer survey scores for street works and reinstatement of repair and connections work within his COAM area Cambridge. Ben supported and coached operational teams to achieve compliant first-time-right working with no fixed penalty notices in the first six months of this year!
