Working towards a net-zero future

Society’s expectations of energy companies have increased significantly and it is now more important than ever that we work towards a net-zero future.
As the largest Gas Distribution company in the UK, we provide an essential service that keeps the energy flowing to over 11m homes, offices and businesses. We recognise that Cadent has a significant part to play in providing a cleaner, greener, responsible and sustainable future.
We are committed to responding to a changing world and the new challenges and trends that may affect our ability to meet our business objectives, and our commitment to doing business responsibly, because we know this is the right thing to do and what our customers want us to do.

Our sustainability report
In order to track this journey and ensure that we are delivering on these commitments, we have produced our first sustainability report, which provides an update on our efforts and demonstrates our commitment to this goal.

We have focussed on 5 areas over the past 12 months which we have reported on, which are:
·         climate change;
•         resource scarcity;
•         social inequality in the communities in which we operate; and
•         health and safety challenges.

Whilst we are proud of the work we have accomplished, we recognise there is more to do, and our employees are excited to take on this challenge, to ensure that the future we’re working towards is a net-zero one.

Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy.  We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change.  Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency.   Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.

Cadent manages the national gas emergency service free phone line on behalf of the gas industry - 0800 111 999*

Cadent Gas Ltd is owned by a consortium of global investors.
