Keeping the energy flowing in Bedfordshire

in your area

  • Essential work in Sandy, Bedfordshire continues to ensure continued safe and reliable distribution of gas
  • Gas supply to homes and businesses will not be affected
  • Traffic management plan has been agreed with the local Highways Authority to minimise disruption
A major project to boost the gas supply in Bedfordshire will continue in September, moving along Sandy High St to the bridge running over Sandy railway line from Monday 5th September for approximately 4 weeks.

Due to growth in the area, this project is vital to reinforce the gas supply to the village of Potton and the surrounding areas, heating homes and businesses for years to come.

To complete the works safely, we will need to install 4 – way lighting on High Street, at the junction of Station Road/ Potton Road, starting on Monday 5th September for approximately 4 weeks.

Dates may be subject to change due to engineering or finishing a phase of works earlier.

The gas supply to residents should not be affected during the works and local shops and businesses will remain open as usual.

A Cadent spokesperson said: “We need to install the new main to keep gas flowing safely and reliably, so that local homes can use it for central heating, hot water and for cooking.

“We would like to thank people for their patience while the work is carried out. Every effort will be made to complete this project as soon as possible"

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
