Cadent engineers are scheduled to complete vital repairs to a stretch of gas pipeline in Huntingdon in late September.

Engineers currently anticipate the work will be completed by Sunday 20 September 2020.

The work needs to be carried to out to help ensure local residents keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating.

To enable the work to be carried out a road closure is currently in place on Stukeley Road, beneath the iron bridge with a signed diversion in place via Spittals Way. Excavations have also been dug in the car park in Lidl to enable engineers to carry out the work, but the store remains open for business as usual.

Local gas supplies will continue to be maintained throughout the work and local businesses will also continue to remain open as usual.

Cadent Network Engineer Karl Shipp said: “We need to carry out these essential repairs to help ensure the local community keeps on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking, heating and warm water for showers and baths.
“The repairs we’re carrying out are complex but are progressing well and we’re on course to complete the work by September 20 and we’ll continue to do all we can to deliver it with minimal disruption.”

He added: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience our work may be causing and are grateful to the local authority and to Lidl for their assistance in helping to facilitate the work and to the community for their continued patience and understanding.

Future of Gas: Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
