Emergency works are taking place to repair a gas pipe under Dinting Vale, Glossop.

A smell of gas was reported earlier this week and Cadent, which manages the local gas network, has taken action to ensure safety and keep gas flowing to local homes.

Traffic lights remain in place to control the flow of vehicles around the work area, opposite Dinting Vale Business Park, on Dinting Vale [SK13 6LG].

Trevor Lubbock, Customer Operations Area Manager, said: “We have completed immediate emergency actions to make this safe and keep gas flowing to thousands of local homes and other properties in the area. What we’re doing now is exploring all options for the longer-term repair – which may involve a very specialist repair, or bringing forward plans to replace this very old pipe, if not now then soon.

“If you live, work or regularly travel along this road, you will know our engineers have needed to repair this pipe frequently in recent times – and we know this is very disruptive to road users. I am sorry for that. While you may not see us on site all the time, the team is formulating the repair plan. The site is being monitored regularly, with my engineers visiting day and night to ensure everything remains safe.”

If you smell gas in the local area, please report it immediately to the national gas emergency service on 0800 111 999. Do not assume it is related to this – it may not be and needs to be checked out. All calls are recorded and may be monitored.

    Cadent

Cadent is the UK’s largest gas distribution network with a 200-year legacy. We are in a unique position to build on strong foundations whilst encouraging the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change. Day to day we continue to operate, maintain and innovate the UK’s largest gas network, transporting gas safely and protecting people in an emergency. Our skilled engineers and specialists remain committed to the communities we serve, working day and night to ensure gas reaches 11 million homes from Cumbria to North London and the Welsh Borders to East Anglia, to keep your energy flowing.

    Future of Gas:

Here at Cadent we support the Government’s plans to reach Net Zero by 2050. That means we’re backing the introduction of hydrogen as a low carbon alternative to natural gas for the future. We know people love the controllability of gas and, with our network already in place, it makes sense to switch to the lower carbon alternative offered by hydrogen, which we believe can keep homes and businesses warm for generations to come.
