    Gas Safety Week 2025

This Gas Safety Week we celebrate our gas safety heroes who do an incredible job in keeping the public gas safe - every hour of the day, 365 days a year. From our gas emergency call handlers to our first call operative engineers, we respond to gas emergencies daily to keep customers safe.

Our colleagues work across many operational functions to fix, replace and upgrade gas pipes, manage connections and attend emergencies and incidents. We support the work they do every day to keep the gas flowing to homes, and to keep the people in those homes safe and warm.

    Our hero engineers saving lives

Sometimes they go above and beyond, as is shown in this story of our three engineers from Ipswich who saved a man from a fire in his home. Whilst attending a job nearby their quick thinking and fast actions saved his life, demonstrating the fire safety skills they also have as part of their gas emergency training.

Our hidden heroes – the emergency customer centre team

If you experience a gas emergency, our customer centre team are the first people you will speak to. They work around the clock handling calls 24/7 to assess gas emergencies and dispatch engineers to site – quite often our hidden heroes at the end of the phone. Watch them in action and hear what working on gas emergencies means to them.

Keeping our colleagues safe+well, so they can keep you safe and warm

We recognise the importance of keeping our colleague safe+well in order to perform these critical jobs well every day; watch our video to see what being safe and well means to our colleagues.

    Key gas safety advice

We’re proud to support you every day in our roles, playing our part to keep people safe and warm across the UK.

Please take some time to read our gas safety advice and share it with others who might not be aware; even if that’s simply adding the 0800 111 999 gas emergency number into their phone.

Check on neighbours and elderly relatives or people who may be more vulnerable, check they know what to do if they smell gas or have a gas appliance issue. Give them our winter ready advice and register them on the Priority Services Register for priority treatment from utility companies.
