Two Lincoln based charities, Ermine Library and Community Hub and Lincoln City Foundation have received 100 specially designed Winter Warm Packs from Cadent Foundation, to help local residents combat the cold this winter.
Nominated for the donations by Hamish Falconer MP, the two charities will distribute the emergency intervention packs to households living in vulnerable situations this winter.
Labour MP for Lincoln, Hamish Falconer, said: I nominated the Ermine Library and Community Hub, along with Lincoln City Foundation, as they have deep connections with their local communities and know there is a need for the Cadent Foundation Winter Warm Packs. The need for these packs has been even greater this month with temperatures falling below freezing.
The packs include essential items to help keep people warm, including hot water bottles, gloves, scarves, hats and blankets, and form part of Cadent Foundation’s national pledge to support households this winter to stay warm and safe. Delivered on a first serve basis, the packs are available to those who need it most this winter.
Sarah Moseley, Head of Social Purpose at Lincoln Bishop University which operates the Ermine Library and Community Hub, said: We know that there are a number of people who will be worried about keeping warm and safe this winter. Small gestures, like the Cadent Foundation Warm Packs, will make a big difference to those struggling and we are very grateful to receive the packages.
In the UK, it is estimated that around six million people live in fuel poverty, meaning they spend over 10 per cent of their income on energy to stay warm and healthy. According to National Energy Action, 16.5 per cent of households in Lincoln are currently living in fuel poverty – above the national average (13%).
Ranjit Blythe, Managing Director at the Cadent Foundation, said: Community hubs are vital for so many reasons. From helping those living in isolation, to providing financial advice and support, we know how much of an impact they can have on people living in vulnerable situations.
While our work focuses on long term solutions to ending fuel poverty, we know that people require immediate help. That’s why, for the first time, this year we have created 5,000 Cadent Foundation Warm Packs to distribute to local charities across the country that will make a huge difference.
