An elderly woman in a blue robe inspects a radiator while holding papers. Houseplants sit on the windowsill, and a cabinet displays teacups nearby.

Getting to know the Priority Services Register

The Priority Services Register (PSR) is a free support service that is provided by utilities companies – including electricity, gas and water – to help customers in vulnerable situations, including those living in fuel poverty.

By registering, it ensures you get extra help during an emergency outage, such as a power cut or supply interruption. Extra help includes providing information in accessible formats or receiving temporary cooking and heating options during an outage.

Who can apply for the Priority Services Register?

You can sign up to the PSR for free, if you:

  • Live with children under the age of five
  • Are of pensionable age
  • Have a disability
  • Use medical equipment reliant on electricity or water
  • Are blind or partially sighted
  • Have a chronic illness
  • Are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Have anxiety, depression or a mental health condition
  • Have a loss or impairment of smell
  • Need documents translated into another format or language
  • Temporarily need extra support.
