- Cadent employees celebrate Cupcake Day 2018 by launching a four-week bake-off to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society
- Senior executives have trained to help Cadent become a Dementia Friendly Utility
- Alzheimer’s Society now in its second year as Cadent’s official charity
Cadent employees across England have kicked off an epic four-week bake-off with a special Cupcake Day while senior executives underwent dementia awareness training.
Employees at Cadent offices and depots including hubs in Hinckley and Coventry marked Cupcake Day 2018 with participating employees taking time to bake-off and ply their colleagues with a dazzling array of cupcakes. The event kicked off a four-week bake-off to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. So far hundreds of pounds have been raised and will be added to the impressive £58.8K haul that was raised during the first year of the Alzheimer’s Society being Cadent’s official charity.
In addition to providing employees with the opportunity to hone their baking skills Cadent is also ensuring there will be leadership by example by providing dementia awareness training for all its Executive Team.
The Executive Team underwent dementia awareness training earlier this month.
This will help Cadent toward its goal of becoming a Dementia Friendly Utility, a key objective for the second year of its partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society.
The executives will apply their training across departments to help ensure Cadent becomes fully dementia friendly in the three key tiers of people, processes and places.
Laura Barnes, Cadent Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Advisor said: “Dementia is one of the greatest challenges society faces and as Britain’s largest gas distribution network we need to make sure all aspects of our operations support both those with dementia and those of our staff caring for someone with dementia.
“The training our Executive Team received will help inform our decision making as we work to becoming an increasingly dementia-friendly utility company.”
She added: “We want to empower those with dementia to keep on doing the things they want to do for as long as possible while also training our staff to adapt their procedures to help them.
“Cadent is proud to be taking part in this very worthy struggle and we look forward to doing all we can to help – Cupcake Day is just the icing on the cake!”
Things Cadent is doing to assist those with dementia include providing free lockable cooker valves – these enables carers to isolate the gas supply to cookers when they are not there.
