- Over £109,000 raised in just 18 months of partnership with Alzheimer’s Society
- Employees have leapt from the skies, crawled through mud, held bake-offs and dressed as elves to raise the cash
- Money will support those living with dementia and fund ground breaking research into the condition
Cadent employees have surpassed an ambitious fundraising target by thousands of pounds for its official charity the Alzheimer’s Society six months ahead of schedule.
Mere days into 2019 Cadent have announced that its employees have raised a whopping £109,638.21, for the charity. This is almost £10,000 above the £100,000 target and six months ahead of the deadline Cadent set for raising the money.
Cadent employees have proved no slouches in raising the money doing everything from parachute jumps and muddy assault courses to baking cakes and dressing as elves. All this has been done on top of performing their important roles keeping people connected to safe and reliable gas supplies 24-7, 365 days a year, as part of Britain’s largest gas distribution network.
Cadent Social Responsibility Specialist Laura Barnes said: “Raising £100,000 is a massive milestone and to have done that in only 18 months of partnership is beyond incredible.
“The passion of our colleagues has been nothing short of sensational and the money that they have raised in this period since the partnership began will most definitely make a lasting difference to the lives of so many people impacted by dementia.”
She added: “From muddy obstacle course and sky dives to bakes sales and dressing as elves the money we have raised will allow Alzheimer’s Society to continue supporting people today through local services and also push closer to a cure for tomorrow by funding ground breaking research”
Simon Fairman Cadent Director, Safety and Network Strategy, and Executive Sponsor for the Alzheimer’s Society partnership has now challenged employees to see if they can raise even more money for the charity, setting a goal of another £25,000, to mark the second anniversary of the partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society.
He said: “It would be fantastic to raise a total of £135,000 before June as a demonstration of our commitment to the partnership we made with the Alzheimer’s Society”.
In addition to its fundraising efforts Cadent has also pledged to become a dementia friendly utility and in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society it has been delivering Dementia Friends training sessions to staff at all levels. This helps ensure that all aspects of Cadent’s operations help support both those living with dementia and those caring for someone who has dementia, especially poignant over the winter period which sees increasing calls from the public to Cadent.
Cadent also provides free lockable cooker valves to enable carers of people living with dementia to cook a hot meal for them, and then isolate the gas supply to cookers when they are not there.
