▪ Work will ensure local people continue to enjoy safe and reliable gas supplies for cooking and heating
▪ Short-term disruption for long-term gain
Thursday (15 September) will see the start of a gas mains upgrade in the Flitwick area that will keep supplies flowing to local residents until the end of the century.
In a four-week project National Grid engineers will be renewing over 300 metres of gas pipe in Hornes End Road. The existing iron mains will be replaced with larger, tough, durable plastic pipes that will last for 80 years.
Last month National Grid invited residents to a drop-in event to find out more about the project and answer any questions they may have.
National Grid Authorising Engineer Dilbir Chana said: “Our job is to connect people to the energy supplies they need. This project will help to secure the long-term benefit of safe and reliable gas supplies to residents in the Flitwick area for generations to come. We’ll make very effort to minimise any disruption and complete the work as soon as possible.
“We had a good turn-out and positive response to last month’s information event.We really appreciate people’s patience and co-operation.”
Gas engineers may need access to homes to replace service pipes (the pipes that take gas from the main in the road to individual properties). This work will involve temporarily interrupting the gas supply and anyone who is affected will be notified beforehand.
All National Grid engineers carry official identity cards, which people should ask to see before allowing them on their property.
