Ageing gas mains will be replaced with tough new pipes in a project which to future-proof local gas mains.
The existing metallic gas mains in South Parade are now nearing the end of their life and will be replaced with tough new pipes. Work to connect the new mains to local properties will take place in Fisher’s Lane.
The work will help ensure the local community keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies for decades to come.
Work is due to start on Monday 3 October and is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete.
To enable the work to be completed safely and efficiently Fisher’s Lane and Ramillies Road will be temporarily closed, with lane closures and parking bay suspensions on South Parade near the junctions with these roads.
A diversion and advanced warning signs will be in place to assist road users.
Project Engineer Ian Smith said: “This essential work will help ensure that local people can keep on having safe and reliable gas supplies to heat their homes and cook a hot meal.”
He added: “We’ll do all we can to deliver then work with as little disruption as possible.”
People are reminded that they should ask to see official identification from anyone trying to enter their property. All engineers working for National Grid carry official identity cards which should be inspected before allowing them in.
